Behind the Lens: How Honey Films Grew From a Local Dream to a National Name

A Hattiesburg Dream Takes Flight

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — What began in 2018 as a small wedding film company founded by two friends with a dream and a few inexpensive cameras has grown into a husband-and-wife creative team whose work now takes them across the United States and to destination weddings around the world.

Honey Films was founded in Hattiesburg by Michael Peerboom and Cory Cooley, with Peerboom serving as a founding member of the company. In its early years, the two filmmakers quickly expanded their work beyond South Mississippi, including filming major luxury weddings in New Orleans.

The evolution from a small local operation to a traveling husband-and-wife team has taken Honey Films far beyond its original Mississippi roots. Peerboom and Sullivan now travel throughout the United States documenting weddings in a wide range of settings — from intimate celebrations at local barns and venues to destination events surrounded by some of the country's most recognizable landscapes. Their work has taken them to national parks including the Great Smoky Mountains, Yosemite and Mount Rainier, as well as international destinations such as Jamaica.

 

For the couple, the variety of locations is part of what makes their work meaningful. Each wedding presents a different setting, story and couple, while the goal remains the same: to preserve the moments and emotions of the day through both film and photography.

That growth has also been accompanied by recognition at home in Mississippi.

For three consecutive years — 2024, 2025 and 2026 — Honey Films has been voted #1 Best Wedding Videographer in Mississippi by Mississippi Magazine.

The company received the honor in 2024, followed by consecutive wins in 2025 and 2026.

Those three consecutive honors mark a significant milestone for Honey Films, which began as a small Hattiesburg operation with two friends, a dream and a few cheap cameras.

Now, nearly a decade later, Honey Films is nominated for Mississippi’s Best 2027 in both Best Videographer and Best Photographer. Led by husband-and-wife team Michael Peerboom and Kaycee Sullivan, the company now travels across the country and internationally, capturing weddings everywhere from local venues to national parks and destination celebrations in Jamaica.

Despite its growth, Honey Films remains rooted in the same purpose it had from the beginning: telling the unique story of every couple on one of the most important days of their lives.
